The pilots ofUnited Airlines have ratified a new four-year contract that their union says is worth more than $10 billion.
The union previously said the deal would result in salary increase until 40 % over four years. L’Airline Pilots Association said Friday that 82% of pilots who took part in the vote were in favor of the agreement, according to Reuters and Bloomberg. Garth Thompson, leader of the union’s United Group, called a contract that “brings substantial benefits to our pilots”.
United joins Delta Air Lines and to American Airlines to find new contract pilots who eliminate a source of friction with a key work group but will significantly increase carriers’ costs. The pilots of Southwest Airlinesrepresented by a separate union, are still in negotiations, as are the PNC of several airlines.
The pilots’ union said United’s contract included unprecedented increases and improvements in working conditionsTHE sick leaveTHE vacation and pensions retirement. United has about 16,000 pilots. The contract will last until September 30, 2027.
