Washington DC: Latest Developments in US Efforts to Mediate Israel-Saudi Arabia Relations

Washington DC

United States of America (US) revealed the latest developments in efforts to mediate the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab Saudi. Washington said Tel Aviv and Riyadh were moving towards the outline of a historic agreement between the two countries that have been enemies for decades.

As reported AFPSaturday (30/9/2023), President Joe Biden hopes to change the Middle East region, and achieve a diplomatic victory ahead of the elections, by getting Saudi – as the custodian of two of Islam’s holiest sites – to officially recognize Israel.

“All parties have agreed, I think, on the basic framework for what we might be able to push forward,” John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council at the US White House, told local reporters.

“However, as in any complex arrangement, because this is bound to happen, everyone has to do something. And everyone has to compromise on some things,” he said.

The US has urged its allies in the Middle East, namely Israel and Saudi Arabia, to normalize diplomatic relations. The move follows previous similar agreements involving the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco.

Saudi Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), who is also the country’s de-facto leader, recently revealed that his country and Israel are getting closer day by day. The Israeli Prime Minister (PM) also said the same thing Benjamin Netanyahu.
