Azerbaijani security forces have detained at least several representatives of the military leadership of the unrecognized Armenian republic in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Radio Azatutyun reports this, writes European Truth.
It became known that Levon Mnatsakanyan, who was the “Minister of Defense” in the unrecognized republic from 2015 to 2018, was detained at a checkpoint on the way to Armenia. He was taken to Baku.
The former deputy commander of the army of the unrecognized republic, David Manukyan, was also detained; he is accused of committing a terrorist attack in Karabakh. Baku reported that the detention took place on September 27. His brother Gegham Manukyan is a member of the opposition faction in the Armenian parliament.
Earlier, officials of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh told the publication that its so-called president Samvel Shahramanyan was negotiating with the Azerbaijani side about the safe departure of the military-political leadership from Karabakh.
One of the anonymous interlocutors said that three former “presidents,” as well as the former “Minister of Foreign Affairs” and adviser to Shahramanyan, David Babayan, are facing arrest. Reuters reported, citing sources, that Azerbaijan plans to arrest about 200 government officials of the unrecognized republic on charges of various crimes.
Earlier it was reported about the arrest on the way to Armenia billionaire and ex-head of the “government” of Karabakh Ruben Vardanyan, Yerevan will demand his release.
Let us remind you that on Wednesday the so-called President of Karabakh signed a decree on dissolution of all government bodies of the unrecognized republic from January 1 2024. Due to the mass exodus of the population from Karabakh, de facto this could happen much earlier.
