Physician and Professor Chris Polman Receives the Andreas Medal for Dedication to Healthcare in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM – Today, September 29, 2023, physician and professor Chris Hubert Polman received the Andreas Medal. He received this award after his farewell speech from Deputy Mayor Hester van Buren. Mr. Polman received the award because of his many years of dedication to healthcare in Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Chris Polman has been committed to Amsterdam’s healthcare system since 1986, especially for the well-being of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). He will leave Amsterdam UMC on November 1, 2023 due to his retirement.

As dean of the VU Faculty of Medicine, he was actively involved in the training of medical students, the promotion of scientific research and the development of various research programs, including the Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam and the VUmc MS Center. Finally, he has been of great importance to the success of the merger between VUmc and AMC over the past ten years.

In all these roles, Polman showed great commitment to the optimization of care and prevention.

Andreaspenning

The Andreas Medal is awarded to people who have achieved great achievements in the social, cultural, societal or economic field for Amsterdam with a national image, and to people who have volunteered for a social cause for at least ten years.
