Interim Budget Report Shows Positive Outlook and Potential Loan Elimination

The interim budget report is positive. The planned loan of 350,000 euros is currently not necessary. With a view to broadband expansion in 2024, the course should remain defensive.

Seelbach is in a better position than feared. The reason for this is that the funds generated from ongoing administrative activities increase from 143,300 euros to 507,000 euros. According to treasurer Lisa Kopf, this means that the withdrawal from liquid assets will be significantly reduced and in all probability the planned loan can be dispensed with. However, the overall result is in the red. This is largely due to the collapse in income tax of around 59,000 euros and the receipt of 8,000 euros less in property taxes. When it comes to trade tax, the municipality can only assume the planned estimate of one million euros and not – as in previous years – additional income. Preliminary savings in investments such as in the area of broadband expansion (250,000 euros) or in road renewal as part of the laying of drinking water mains (190,000 euros) will bring relief to the 2023 budget, but would be reflected in 2024. That’s why no big projects should be initiated, recommended treasurer Lisa Kopf. Mayor Matthias Litterst confirmed that it was good to continue to act defensively and to conduct business seriously.
