MEP Marek Belka commented on the latest data on the decline in inflation in Poland in the “Guest of Events” program level of 8.2 percent
– I am always happy about the decline in inflation, because it will be closer to the inflation target, i.e. 2.5 percent, but my joy is moderate – said the former president of the National Bank of Poland. According to Belka, this is the reason for the more favorable inflation rate “Orlen’s adventurous pricing policy.”
Marek Belka: I advise everyone to buy fuel
As the former president of the National Bank of Poland emphasized, the strategy of the state-owned company is “strange” in the face of rising oil prices on global markets and the strengthening dollar against the zloty. – I advise everyone to buy fuel, because you never know what will happen prices will not go up after the elections – said the politician and added that inflation is actually higher because some food products are still subject to a temporary reduction 5 percent VAT rate.
– Since inflation “broke off the chain”, prices increased by about 40 percentand for us this means an additional “para-tax” burden PLN 410 billion that we lost to the state budget – said the MEP.
Belka called people with mortgage loans the beneficiaries of the interest rate reduction policy. – Interest rates are lower than they should be. They were also offered credit holidays, he said, adding that if he were the one who decided on the interest rates would keep them at the level before the cut, i.e. 6.75 pp. – I am not in favor of a drastic increase in interest rates – he explained.
Belka has advice for the president of NPB: No more crazy spending
The politician also referred to the slogan promoted by NPB, according to which: prices have not increased in the last six months.
– If I were the president of the National Bank of Poland, I would also point out that inflation is slowing down, but I would also point out that there is still a long way to reach the inflation target – he said. – President of the National Bank of Poland should clearly tell the government: no more crazy spending – Belka said, referring to the government’s plans in this matter increasing the budget deficit.
The former prime minister also commented on the NBP spot, in which a man shopping in a store states that the prices of food products are getting cheaper.
– I would refrain from meme-like videos. This is a mockery of the NBP, show some seriousness, Mr. President – added.

Migration pact. Marek Belka: Poland will be the beneficiary
The MEP also referred to the migration pact, the future of which will be decided by the EU bodies. – Poland will probably be there beneficiary of this solidarity package. There is no point in lamenting, he said, referring to the United Right government’s loud opposition to the proposed relocation of migrants in the EU countries. – We are a country of migration. During the PiS government We are probably one of the largest recipients of immigrants from Asian and African countries – he said.
He also added that the Polish authorities are deliberately threatening migration, while introducing hundreds of thousands of immigrants and destabilizing the situation in neighboring countries, e.g. Germany: – This is a conscious undermining of the European Union – he announced.
Belka hopes that the measures introduced by the German side will be intensified border controls will not have a negative impact on Polish road transport.
