Polyphony Digital has just confirmed bad news for players who still spend their free time on Gran Turismo Sport servers. Sony will turn off its servers at the beginning of next year, and in a few weeks the sale of digital game content will be suspended.
Gran Turismo 7 has been available since last year and the production is very popular. However, some players can still test their skills in Gran Turismo Sport and those interested have until January 31, 2024 – on that day the company will discontinue online services from production.
Online services for Gran Turismo Sport, a PlayStation®4 exclusive, will be disabled on January 31, 2024 at 7:00. Earlier, on December 1, 2023, we will also end the sale of downloadable content on the PlayStation™ Store. After this date, you will not be able to use online services such as Community, Open Lobby and Sports Mode, or online play features/items such as custom shades. You will still be able to play offline and use previously purchased downloadable content.
Players will still be able to check out the offline mode and previously purchased content, but those interested will lose access to much of the content.
The developers thanked the community for playing together, as Gran Turismo Sport has been supported by a team from Japan since 2017. Now Polyphony Digital wants to exclusively deal with Gran Turismo 7:
We would like to thank all players who have used Gran Turismo Sport’s online services since its launch in 2017. We will now focus on further improving the online services of the current installment of the series, Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Polyphony Digital has published a small FAQ that summarizes the most important information for Gran Turismo Sport players. However, it is difficult to say how many people still tackle the routes and test various production cars that debuted on the previous generation.
