Scammers are trying to extort money from women in particular via the Facebook page of a police team from Tilburg. The team shouts everyone not to comment on it.
“In recent days, fake accounts have been busy responding to messages on our Facebook account. These fake accounts try to scam women in particular,” writes the Leijdal Police Basic Team.
“Scammers have been working this way for years, but they are now so brutal that they are also trying it with us on Facebook,” a spokesperson told NU.nl.
Those scammers are targeting women. With beautiful texts such as “you are a very beautiful woman with a charming smile”, the scammers hoped to come into direct contact with potential victims.
“The aim is to cheat people out of money. After contact, they come up with a sad story after which they ask to transfer money,” says the spokesperson.
The police say there is not much they can do other than post a warning. The accounts appear to come from the United States. “Don’t fall for it,” the spokesperson repeats.
