We guarantee our own security when we help Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev to journalists. He participated in the Annual Conference of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the heads of the foreign missions of the Republic of Bulgaria, which is being held today at the “Boyana” Residence. Even if we minimally help Ukraine, it is worth it, added the minister.
Parliament decided earlier this week that Bulgaria should provide additional military aid to Ukraine, which includes malfunctioning anti-aircraft guided missiles of the 5B55R type, in the management of the Ministry of Defense, and ammunition for automatic small arms c caliber 5.56×45 mm, with no need for the needs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The decision was voted on during a closed session this week. The proponents of the decision project are Boyko Borisov and Hristo Gadjev from GERB-SDS, Hristo Ivanov, Ivaylo Mirchev and Kiril Petkov from “Continuing the change – Democratic Bulgaria”, Delyan Peevski from DPS.
Asked about the security in the Black Sea, Minister Tagarev said that he was informed that there are prerequisites for accidents.
“Russian ships roam around our exclusive economic zone, take provocative and forceful actions against merchant ships of other countries. All of this poses risks to our security.” he pointed out. According to him, the announcement about their presence for training is still valid. There is no such exercise, this is just an occasion that Russia uses, and by seemingly conducting an exercise, it is trying to block the export of Ukrainian grain, commented Tagarev. According to him, this also prevents the realization of Bulgarian interests, including economic ones.
Regarding the infantry fighting vehicle project, Tagarev pointed out that solid industrial participation in the implementation of this project is foreseen. He called for the deputies to be informed first. The Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Defense, all the teams previously worked very seriously, we quickly made the decisions, explained the minister. We are waiting for the National Assembly to decide on this project, he added.
