Former striker of the Ukrainian national team Ivan Getsko said what he thinks about the prospects of the Ukrainian national team under its current head coach, Sergei Rebrov.

“I think it’s premature to draw any conclusions now. Rebrov just joined the team. He hasn’t done or changed anything yet. While the team is moving on the old luggage that came before it. The fact that new people appeared on the training staff, in principle, everyone was waiting for this. His coaching staff, let’s say, is not of the highest class. I would not yet say that Rebrov and his team made any serious contribution.
My impressions of the national team’s games are twofold. On the one hand, we scored maximum points with North Macedonia and Malta – well done, everything was great. But these two victories were very difficult for the team. A serious exam in September with England and Italy brought only one point.
The players in our national team are not bad. The task is to unite them, to make them understand that they can play no worse than the English and Italians. That they are in no way inferior to them. Many of them play in good European clubs – this is important.
Of course, I wanted them to snag a ticket to the 2024 European Championship. We understand what our competitors are. But even if we don’t make it to the final tournament in Germany, no one will blame Rebrov for this. It is clear that he needs time. But if he works a miracle, well then honor and praise him. So this is the coach we needed.
In terms of potential, we have one of the best teams in the history of Ukraine. There are 5-6 players, the backbone of our youth team, on their way to the national team. They are in good shape and have regular playing experience in their clubs. In the future, these will be the leaders of the national team,” Getsko quotes FanDay.
