José Mourinho’s AS Roma suffered another blow in Serie A on Thursday. The Roman team lost hard in the away match against Kevin Strootman’s Genoa: 4-1.
Albert Gudmundsson, former PSV and AZ player, scored Genoa’s opening goal. He scored after good preparatory work by Strootman. Bryan Cristante equalized for AS Roma, but Mateo Retegui gave Genoa the lead again.
Morten Thorsby, former SC Heerenveen player, and Junior Messias further troubled AS Roma with goals in the second half. Strootman was injured after half an hour at Genoa. Rick Karsdorp stayed on the bench for the visitors for the entire game.
AS Roma is having a bad run in Serie A. Mourinho’s team has won only two of the last fourteen league games. The club recently won the first Europa League group match against Sheriff (1-2).
AS Roma has only collected five points from the first six league matches. The club is in a very disappointing sixteenth place in Serie A. Genoa has climbed to eleventh position.
