Proud of its 7th place at the world championship this summer, the Way Dance Crew wants to expand further: a casting is organized this Sunday, October 1st.
From our correspondent, Monique Desgouttes Rouby – Today at 8:11 p.m.
A first place at the 2023 European Championship and a 7th (out of 17 competitors), last August 27 at the world championship, Yoan Gensel, director of the Markadas dance school in Bron, does not hide his pride: “Our objectives are firstly the practice and pleasure of dance, but we often push our young people to compete, it is a life lesson, it helps them to progress, to surpass themselves, but also to accept failure with dignity and to remain humble in victory. We also have champions in rock and acrobatic rock! “.
A casting from 13 years old
The Way Dance Crew is made up of around ten dancers, mostly female dancers, aged 14 to 26. Dedicated to urban dances – House, Raga, Girly, Voguing and of course Hip-hop – she trains 4 hours a week, under the direction of Yoan Gensel (coach and choreographer) and Lucas Alonso, his assistant: the crew will be ready for the big challenges of 2024. To expand the group, the school is recruiting new dancers and organizing a casting for young people aged 13 and over, this Sunday, October 1 from 1 to 6 p.m. *.
But not all of the 700 members of this school do hip-hop! From Afro dance to Zumba, the choreographic alphabet is divided into 26 disciplines, supervised by 15 teachers.
26 dance disciplines taught
Each year, new aesthetics are added to the offerings such as boogie and heels (dance on high heels) in 2023. After the 2024 Olympics, Break, a new Olympic discipline, will undoubtedly enrich the urban dance department.
Because Bron is a city of dancers, the dance schools of Bron, private or associative, all have their place in the city. “We don’t overshadow each other, on the contrary we know each other well and we complement each other,” says the director, referring to Pôle Pik, the MJC or the Maison des Essarts. Each has its specificities. In Markadas, for example, from 2 years old, the school offers baby dancer classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays, there are still places available. For the next fall holidays, registrations for M’Colo are already open. »
“Baby dancer” classes from 2 years old
According to Léa Pestre, one of the dancers of the urban dance crew: “Dancing, most often, allows us to escape, we forget everything, we abandon ourselves to the music and we let the body speak. “.
