Sources of vitamin B-12
Food safety and quality specialist, Fahd Al-Saeed, said that vitamin B-12 deficiency, if left untreated, can lead to six health harms: anemia, fatigue, muscle weakness, intestinal problems, nerve damage, and mood disorders.
The food safety specialist explained, via the X platform (formerly Twitter), that most people get enough vitamin B-12 by following a balanced diet, but the elderly, moderate vegetarians, strict vegetarians, and those suffering from diseases that affect their ability to absorb the vitamin. B-12 from foods, may benefit from taking oral supplements.
He added that it is also recommended to take vitamin B-12 supplements specifically for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and it is also highly recommended for vegetarians among them.
Rich sources of vitamin B-12 include liver, tuna, meat, salmon, oysters, and natural yeast.
