Amahl Pellegrino’s Impressive Scoring Record and Norwegian National Team Snub: What’s the Story?

Bodø/Glimt forward Amahl Pellegrino, 33, has impressed in recent years in Norway, and is so far on record for 27 goals and 14 assists in 32 games this season, while overall he has scored 71 goals and 33 assists in 106 games with the Norwegian top club.

Despite that, he has not yet been called to a Norwegian national team meeting, which has become a talking point in Norway.

Now Norway’s national team captain Ståle Solbakken says that Pellegrino has been relevant for previous national team meetings.

– He is a player that we have discussed, but at the same time we are brutally honest in relation to what gives us the most in different types of situations, Solbakken tells Nettavisen and continues:

– He started well (this season), then he had a less good period and now he is on his way up again. I don’t watch if he scores two penalties, and we know he scores spectacular goals. He is a good player, there is no doubt about that.

– We have absolutely nothing against him and think he is a very, very good player.

Solbakken also does not want to reveal whether Pellegrino will be selected for the next collection.

– He is in the group (among current players), so we will see. It also depends a little on others.

The previous national team gathering had Norway with forwards such as Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland, Celta Vigo’s Jørgen Strand Larsen, Club Brügge’s Antonio Nusa, Olympiakos’ Ola Solbakken and Branns’ Bård Finne. Villarreal’s Alexander Sørloth is also usually in the national team squad, but missed the September collection.
