A powerful explosion sounded near Tashkent Airport, the capital of Uzbekistan, on the night of Wednesday-Thursday, according to what media outlets reported in the Central Asian country, whose authorities did not immediately release any information about what happened.
The Nova 24 news website quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the explosion occurred in a customs warehouse near Tashkent Airport.
Videos posted on social media showed a column of smoke and flame rising into the sky, lighting up the darkness of the night.
For its part, the Ministry of Health announced that a fire broke out in the warehouse, causing injuries and taking them to the hospital.
The ministry said in a post on the Telegram application, “So far, there are no serious injuries among the wounded. At the present time, doctors are providing them with all necessary medical assistance.”
It also announced that other ambulance teams are providing emergency health care to a number of injured people at the scene of the fire and in residential buildings near it, without mentioning the number of these wounded.
Uzbekistan is the largest in terms of population among the former Soviet republics in Central Asia.
