Multiple Tragedies in Iraq: Poisoning at Kirkuk Wedding & Deadly Fire at Al-Hamdaniya Wedding Hall

While not 24 hours had passed since the tragedy at the Al-Hamdaniya wedding hall in Nineveh Governorate, it was announced late on Wednesday night that dozens of people invited to a wedding in the Hawija district of Kirkuk Governorate had been poisoned.

On Wednesday night, the Kirkuk Governorate Health Department in Iraq announced that more than 50 cases of poisoning were recorded as a result of spoiled food.

Director General of Kirkuk Health, Dr. Ziyad Khalaf, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia: “We were informed as a preliminary toll of 50 cases of poisoning, and we are on our way towards Hawija to find out the truth about what happened, follow the situation closely, and count the total number.”

Khalaf explained, “The poisoning cases occurred during a wedding, and according to the information we received, the food had been prepared at home.”

He stressed that “the cases are under control and we are doing our best to treat and treat patients. What is important here is that no deaths have been recorded as a result of this poisoning incident.”

A horrific fire claimed the lives of dozens in a wedding hall in Al-Hamdaniya district in Nineveh Governorate, in the north of the country, on Wednesday.

The Sky News Arabia correspondent quoted the Governor of Nineveh, Najm al-Jubouri, as saying that the number of those who died was 87, but the families say that the number is much higher, and according to them exceeds 200 people, including dozens of children whose bodies were completely charred.

Hospitals are still crowded with wounded, including hospitals in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, neighboring Nineveh.

Our correspondent reported that there were dozens of injured people whose bodies were burned to varying degrees, in some cases reaching 40-50 percent of their bodies.
