IES-AV: Soon University of Vakinankaratra, according to the president of the University of Antananarivo

Official launch of the festivities in Antsirabe.

The Antsirabe Vakinankaratra Institute of Higher Education or IES-AV, the 8th establishment within the University of Antananarivo, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

This annex of the University of Antananarivo has been established in Antsirabe since 2013 as part of the implementation of the local universities policy by the government. It subsequently became a higher institute specializing in three fields including the Engineering Sciences field, the Social Sciences field and finally the Sciences and Technologies field in which 27 specializations operate.

Celebration until 2024

These 10 years of existence of the IES-AV will be celebrated with great fanfare until June 2024, through several events, such as cultural and sporting meetings, project competitions among others.

The festivities were officially launched yesterday at the Hôtel des Thermes with a large carnival and the exhibition of research results from students in each major. Several authorities, including the president of the University of Antananarivo, Professor Mamy Ravelomanana, honored the opening ceremony with their presence.

It was during his speech that the latter rightly announced that the IES-AV is on the way to becoming a full-fledged University of the Vakinankaratra region.

Difficulties and innovations

But for the moment the IES-AV is facing several difficulties. The vast majority of the 250 teachers at IES-AV still come from the capital, which constitutes a great burden for the establishment, especially since 210 of them are temporary workers. Only 18 classes are currently existing and operational while an infrastructure of 93 classes would be necessary to absorb the 2,000 students of the establishment. Furthermore, all training courses are paid for, a reason for the increase in university dropouts within this institution; training costs amounting annually to 500,000 ariary for the License and 600,000 ariary for the Masters.

But despite all these difficulties, innovations have also been made. One of them is the upcoming introduction of climate change in the program of all mentions thanks to the support of the GIZ, but also the establishment of an online library or the establishment of courses of language.

Double events

Furthermore, the 9th edition of the Doctoriales, an annual scientific event organized by the University of Antananarivo in collaboration with the Belgian Academy of Research and Higher Education of the Commission for Development Cooperation (ARES CCD) was also launched yesterday in Antsirabe. The Doctoriales aim to bring together, train and facilitate the professional integration of doctoral students but also to promote the impact of research on an academic level and on development in general.

They will focus on the theme “Research, a mediator between entrepreneurship and sustainable development while respecting environmental ethics” this year.

During this edition, 30 doctoral students from all universities on the Big Island will have the opportunity to present and share the results of their research as part of a competition until tomorrow.

The fragrance of God.
