Recently, mainland Chinese Peking Opera masters Yu Kuizhi and Li Shengsu attended the press conference of the National Peking Opera Theater in Taiwan held in Taipei. From September 26th to October 1st, the theater will perform six exciting performances in Taipei, including “The Female Generals of the Yang Family” and “Farewell My Concubine”.
Since the National Peking Opera Company’s first visit to Taiwan in 1993, which caused a sensation, this exchange has become a major event in the cross-strait Peking Opera community over the years. According to reports, this year, they also became the first mainland theater troupe to come to Taiwan after the epidemic.
Yu Kuizhi said that for the past 30 years, we have been the same theater troupe, working with the same invitation party, and doing the same thing of promoting the quintessence of China. This year, we came to Taiwan for six days and six performances, one performance per day, without repetition. The Taiwanese audience’s level and requirements for appreciating Peking Opera are very high; we hope to continue this cultural promotion activity in the future and stick to it.
Li Shengsu said that the performance she came to Taiwan in 1993 was the premiere of “The Female Generals of the Yang Family”. This year she will lead her student Zhu Hongfen to play Mu Guiying and meet the Taiwanese audience for the first time on the 26th; this time we will push the younger generation to the center of the stage and hope that They can present their best performance to the audience in Baodao.
It is understood that the National Peking Opera Company has made careful arrangements for its return to Taiwan on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. Du Zhe, a veteran civil and martial arts student, Wang Yue, a colorful-faced actor from the Qiu School, and Guo Yaoyao, a veteran dancer from the Li School, are among the performers. At the press conference after arriving in Taiwan, Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu, Wang Yue, and Guo Yaoyao took the lead in singing excerpts from the plays coming to Taiwan.
