Once Wilfred Rosas’ term ends as mayor, there is a major question regarding who will be the next leader. Over the last eight years, there have been some successes as well as disappointments.
But no one ever questioned the will or dedication of Rosas.
Tonight, city residents can get insight into the candidates for the top elected job. The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County hosting a live Meet the Candidates Forum at 7 p.m. in Dunkirk City Hall. Both David Damico, who currently serves as councilman at-large, and Kate Wdowiasz, a city paralegal, will be talking about the issues while taking questions from the audience.
Whoever wins this race will be overseeing a city facing a transition. While population has shown a slight increase, there is definitely concern growing over a downtown that has shown no growth — especially on Central Avenue.
Rosas had a vision for the city. It wasn’t perfect, but working with the state and business partners, did allow for new jobs and projects.
Tonight’s event may give voters a better idea of what these two candidates stand for — and how they plan to keep Dunkirk on a positive path.
