Famous pop star Shakira may face a second trial after she was accused of owing Spanish tax authorities about 6.7 million euros ($7 million).
A judicial spokesman said on Tuesday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office had filed a criminal complaint against the Colombian singer before a court located near Barcelona, and the court will now decide whether the singer should be put on trial.
A preliminary investigation began last July, after receiving a report issued by the Tax Office regarding two possible crimes related to income and property tax in 2018.
The beautiful singer (46 years old) is scheduled to appear before the court in Barcelona this year, on separate charges related to tax evasion, with a total value of about 14.5 million euros, during the period between 2012 and 2014.
The public prosecutor is calling for a prison sentence of eight years and two months to be imposed on Shakira, in addition to a fine of 23.8 million euros.
