Kuwaiti Shooter Abdullah Al-Rashidi Wins Gold with Perfect Score at Asian Games

Kuwaiti Abdullah Al-Rashidi topped the Arab crowns on the fifth day of the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, not only because he won the individual gold medal in skeet shooting, but also because he achieved this with a record achievement after hitting 60 plates out of 60.

The 60-year-old, who won bronze at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, was able to win gold after beating Indian Anant Jeet Singh Naroka (58 bowls) and Al-Attiyah (46 bowls), who won his second medal on Wednesday after also leading his country to the team scape silver.

Al-Rashidi gave a phenomenal performance on his way to the gold medal after hitting 60 out of 60 bowls, breaking the Asian Games record that was shared by his compatriot Mansour Al-Rashidi, the 2018 Asian Games Jakarta champion, and the Chinese Di Jin (52 bowls).

Most importantly, Al-Rashidi also equaled the world record set by Indian Angad Vir Singh Bajwa on November 6, 2018, giving his country the second medal in these games after the first on Monday, when Yousef Al-Shamlan won bronze in the Al-Hassam (individual) competition.

This is the second gold medal for the Arabs in the current games, after the first gold medal given to the Emirates by judoka Magomedomar Magomedomarov in the weight of more than 100 kg.

Wednesday was also special for the multi-talented Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah, as he put his country on the Gyeongju Asian Games medal table by first winning silver in the team skeet shooting competition, accompanied by Rashid and Masoud Al-Athba.

The Qatari team came in second place after collecting 359 points, while host China won gold (362 points) and India bronze (355).

Al-Attiyah (52 years old) previously won team gold in Busan 2002 and Gwangju 2010, and individual skeet bronze in Gwangju 2010, while he won bronze in the London Olympic Games in 2012.

Al-Attiyah returned to winning the individual bronze after finishing behind the champion Al-Rashidi.

Al-Attiyah, who hit 46 balls out of 60, told the beIN Sports Network, “Congratulations to Kuwait and Qatar. We won two medals today, with a bronze and a silver for the team and me in the individual. Praise be to God for everything, and we wish success in the next stage.”

He continued, “We fulfilled our promise and rose to the podium. God willing, we wish success in the upcoming tournaments, which are important for qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.”

Regarding his participation in the Asian Rally Championships despite the accident he suffered in the Lebanon International Rally within the Middle East Rally Championship, he said, “We celebrate this victory and these are championships, and we must perform our duty and raise the flag of our country in international forums.”
