“They called from the clinic and said that an outbreak of the disease had been discovered in our house. They said that in the next two days my husband and I need to visit a medical office for measles vaccination, since we are among the circle of people who probably had contact with the sick person– said Alina G.
– They asked me over the phone if I lived at this address and if I had a vaccination book. If it contains a measles vaccination, then the clinic was asked to present a certificate. There was no door-to-door inspection, – explained Roman K.
The regional department of Rospotrebnadzor said that since the beginning of the year, 19 outbreaks of measles have been registered in Ugra, in which 31 people fell ill: 23 children and eight adults. All cases are imported.
– In laboratory-confirmed outbreaks, more than four thousand Yugra residents came into contact with patients, of which 25.6% were subject to emergency immunization for epidemic indications – they had never had measles before and did not have a full course of vaccinations against measlesthe department said.
Doctors remind that measles is an acute infectious viral disease that is transmitted by airborne droplets. It is accompanied by fever, general intoxication, rash, and mucosal damage. It causes complications from the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, infection can lead to pneumonia, blindness and encephalitis, or even death.
The only effective way of prevention is vaccination. Children are vaccinated at one year of age, then revaccinated at six years of age. Adults are vaccinated against measles up to 35 years of age, and for certain categories – up to 55. In Ugra, 902 children, 4,579 adults, and 1,936 migrants were subject to immunization.
Earlier, Vestnik wrote that Rospotrebnadzor of Yugra supported the idea of introducing mandatory vaccination against measles and diphtheria for foreign citizens. This will protect against dangerous diseases among visitors.
