The new cycle path linking Dives to Houlgate (Calvados), recently inaugurated (see West France of September 19) by the president of the Department, no longer uses the 150 meters of wooden decking, built in January 2020.
A little flashback. In 2020, the vice-president of the departmental council, Michel Fricout, also president of the steering committee for the Vélomaritime section from Dunkirk to Roscoff, recognized that “of the 1,500 km of this axis, 83% are already passable” and that there existed “holes in the racket”. Including the section between Dives and Houlgate.
Reflections from the new route
Various schemes had been considered, and in the end the decision taken invited cyclists « to take the wooden decking at the height of the Hôtel Imbert, up to the William the Conqueror column, then to find the 800 m of shared path and cycle lanes in the streets of Houlgate to reach the town hall » . This lasted until the beginning of July 2023, and the commissioning of the new route parallel to the railway line.
During the cutting of the tricolor ribbon, Tuesday September 19, Olivier Colin, the mayor of Houlgate, put an end to a number of questions expressed on the networks and in the public square: Quid decking? Preserved of course! “The municipal team wanted the installation of permanent benches and sports equipment accessible to all. » Notice to amateurs!
