An unfortunate incident occurred on the night of Monday, September 25, in North Miami, when a child, only 10 years old, died after accidentally shooting himself with a firearm that he found in his home.
According to the local media Telemundo 51the incident occurred around 8:00 pm, the time when the authorities received an emergency call alerting them about a minor who had been wounded by a gunshot.
The boy, whose identity has not been revealed out of respect for the family, was taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after due to his injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the shot was accidentally fired by the same minor, who found a firearm in his home located in the area of 140th Terrace and 5th Place, in northwest Miami-Dade.
Major Kessler Brooks, spokesman for the North Miami police, indicated during a press conference that the boy was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, and although authorities did not discuss his health status, family members confirmed that he had lost his life.
An investigation carried out by the authorities revealed that the firearm was registered in the name of the child’s father, who was inside the home at the time the shot was fired.
North Miami Police Chief Cherise Gause officially confirmed that Tuesday that the boy did not survive his injuries, but did not indicate whether the father would face legal consequences for his actions.
“This is a tragic event that we do not want to happen to anyone in our community. “This is an incident that can certainly be avoided if we practice safe firearm storage, especially when children are involved,” Gause said.
Similar incident on Sunday
Just on the night of Sunday, September 24, a three-year-old girl was injured after she accidentally shot herself with a firearm that had been left unattended in the home.
Images shared on social networks, which are too strong to be published on this site, show the exact moment in which the girl climbs onto a sofa where the weapon was located, and approaches with curiosity.
Afterwards, the little girl places her left hand on the weapon, while her right hand is left next to it. The minor ended up pulling the trigger, which activated the gun, shooting directly into her other hand.
The child’s father was at the home, and was arrested by police on child neglect charges.
