Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) plays a pivotal role in supporting sustainable development in Africa.
The eighth annual meeting of the AIIB’s Board of Governors was held in Sharm el-Sheikh from September 25 to 26. This is the first time that the AIIB has held an annual meeting in Africa.
In September 2020, the AIIB launched its first medium-term development strategy (2021-2030), listing green infrastructure as one of its four key business areas. To this end, the AIIB has set a climate financing goal, that is, climate financing must account for at least 50% of total approved financing by 2025.
