Introducing the Stories x Read Collection: Enhancing Literacy and Cultural Diversity in Argentine Education

The proposal is part of the national Books to Learn program, which organizes the teaching and learning process and deepens the work with a focus on Mathematics, reading and writing. Between 2022 and 2023, the program delivered more than 843,000 books to students in Entre Ríos.

On this occasion, more than 210,000 copies of Stories x Read reach the hands of students, from first to sixth grade. Each boy and girl receives two books of literature stories, which are added to the two books previously delivered on Language and Mathematics.

The director of Primary Education of the General Council of Education (CGE), Mabel Creolani, indicated that “the Stories x Read collection allows our boys and girls to embark on reading from the beginning of their schooling, which implies a cultural heritage. and literary, a journey to new and interesting worlds with the help of Argentine authors and illustrators”, and added that “the arrival of these new books is possible due to the ethical and political commitment of a State that invests in education from a perspective of right to full literacy, inclusion and diversity.”

“We are excited about this opportunity for the student to inaugurate his personal library in his home, making it possible for the construction as a reading subject to continue beyond the school environment,” said the provincial official.

A notable aspect of this initiative is the inclusion of a multimedia version of each book, set to music by the Federal Children and Youth Orchestra of the National Orchestras and Choirs Program, made up of girls, boys and young people from all over the country. This synergy between literature and music allows students to immerse themselves in captivating stories in a unique way.

To bring the characters and texts to life, various artists lent their voices to the reading of the stories. In addition, accessibility to the content has been guaranteed, since the texts were also interpreted in Argentine Sign Language (LSA).

For those institutions with indigenous populations, translations into Qom, Wichi, Mapundungun, Quechua and Guarani were developed, thus promoting inclusion and respect for the cultural diversity of our country.
