CONAKRY- Guinea is preparing to take part in its fifteenth final phase of the African Football Cup of Nations in its history. After multiple disappointments at the end of the different CANs, Syli, eliminated by Gambia in the round of 16 of the last edition in Cameroon, wants to do better in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
And it’s captain Naby Keita who says it, the Guinea team will go and play and try to defy all predictions and perhaps create a surprise on the evening of the final. For Naby Keita (28 years old, 54 caps, 12 goals), we must aim for the final and the trophy for the first time, for the country of Titi Camara.
« The African Cup is the dream of every African player, it is a very big thing for our continent. I want to win the CAN, because I don’t want to end my career without having something for my country. I often speak with Sadio Mané on this subject, and I am very proud of him. He managed to give the African Cup to his country, why not me too? » confided the Guinean captain in the show Talents d’Afrique on Canal+.
Guinea will know its future opponents at the next African Cup following the draw scheduled for October 12 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. With Syli’s performances so criticized by observers and supporters, it is difficult to see Naby Keita’s dream come true. But football being what it is, Syli could create a huge surprise in 2024. In any case, the tone has already been set by Naby Keita.
