Algerian Football Federation Withdraws Bid to Host African Cup of Nations

The Algerian Football Federation announced its withdrawal from the race to compete to host the African Cup of Nations in 2025 and 2027.

Algerian television had quoted, in its account on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, Walid Sadi, the new president of the Algerian Federation, as saying today: “Algeria officially withdraws its candidacy file to host the 2025 and 2027 African Cup of Nations.”

Algeria’s announcement comes one day before the meeting of the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the announcement of the two winning files.

The Algerian Federation said in a statement, “The Federation sent a letter to CAF informing it of the decision to withdraw Algeria’s candidacy file to host the Cup of Nations in 2025 and 2027.”

The Federation revealed that the decision to withdraw the organization file comes as part of a plan to develop the game in the country.

The statement added: “This withdrawal comes due to the new approach followed by the federation in the strategy of developing football in Algeria.

“The Algerian Federation will now focus its efforts on reorganizing and revitalizing football and reiterates its firm commitment to the development of African football.”

Numerous reports stated that Morocco will win the right to host the 2025 Cup of Nations, while the next edition will be held two years later in Senegal.

Algeria previously hosted the tournament in 1990, when it won it for the first time after defeating Nigeria in the final.
