UEFA Considers Allowing Russian Children’s Football Team to Compete

The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) addressed the organization’s leadership with a proposal to allow the Russian children’s football team to participate in the competition. The final decision on the Russian children’s team has not yet been made.

“The Executive Committee appealed to the UEFA management with a request to propose a technical solution that would make it possible to restore the composition of the Russian national teams under 17 years old (both girls and boys) even when the draw has already been held. All matches of Russian teams will have to be held without the country’s flag, anthem, national uniform and not on the territory of the country,” UEFA reports on its website.

Previously, UEFA banned Russian teams from participating in international competitions due to a Russian special operation. UEFA now conveys that children “should not be held responsible for the actions of adults.” At the same time, the executive committee confirmed that the disqualification of all Russian adult teams will remain in force until the end of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Football Association appealed to UEFA with a request to remove Russian representatives from working in the organization, reports RT. The fact is that until 2027, 17 representatives from Russia took seats in UEFA bodies.
