The Increasing Number of Belgians with TVs, Smartphones, Laptops, Tablets, and PCs at Home: CIM Survey Results

The number of Belgians with a TV, smartphone, laptop, tablet and PC at home has increased last year. There was a slight increase in PCs from 37.3 to 37.5 percent, according to figures from the CIM. Ownership of many other devices has actually decreased.

The device that most Belgians have at home is the TV at 96.2 percent, reports the Center for Information about the Media. Ownership of these also increased further. Many of these are not smart TVs. Reported ownership of smart TVs among respondents was below 60 percent, the results noted.

The smartphone follows next with 91.2 percent, an increase compared to the 88.1 percent of the previous measurement. Next is the laptop with 81 percent and the tablet is owned by 54.7 percent of respondents. The landline telephone is in free fall and ownership among respondents has fallen from 48.7 to 42 percent. The console remained the same at 38.5 percent.

Flemish people have relatively more tablets, desktops and PCs; French speakers actually have more handheld consoles. The Chromecast and landline telephone are also more common among Flemish people than among Walloons, says the CIM.

The figures come from the CIM’s Establishment Survey. The questions were distributed among 6,000 respondents. Half of this is from GfK Belgium and concerns face-to-face interviews, the other half concerns questionnaires conducted online.
