Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia WhatsApp has a feature that can block other people’s contacts. However, other people can know that you have blocked their WhatsApp contact.

Because, there are several characteristics of WhatsApp being blocked, one of which is that our profile photo can no longer be seen by people we have blocked.

These characteristics might be a problem in themselves. If the WhatsApp number whose status is blocked is a foreigner, it might not be a problem. But if it’s someone close to you, it could offend their feelings.

No need to worry, you can “block” contacts using the archive feature, so chats from certain contacts can be muted.

By using this archive feature, contacts will remain muted even if there are new messages. All chats remain archived and stored permanently.

When we receive a message, we usually get a notification that a new chat has arrived. However, when you activate this feature, there will be no notifications, except for the name mentioned or reply to the message.

This Archive feature applies to all types of chats, both individual and group.

WhatsApp also explained the purpose of this archive feature so that users have more control over the inbox on its platform.

“Archive in WhatsApp allows you to organize private messages and prioritize important chats. Chat archives will remain archived and muted but you can still change them again,” wrote WhatsApp on its Twitter account.

This feature builds on previous archive capabilities. Namely, individual and group chat threads will be unarchived if new messages come to the user.

How to use Archive on WhatsApp

Select the contact in the chat list that you want to ‘block’.

After that, long tap the chat from the contact.

Then select the “Archive” or “Archive” option or the box symbol at the top right if using Android WhatsApp.

Click, and once the contact and message have moved to a special “Archive” folder, they will no longer be in the chat list.
