Huawei has announced a partnership with a nonprofit founded by Kenya’s first lady, Rachael Ruto, to improve the digital skills of women and girls.
NAIROBI, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has announced a partnership with a non-profit organization founded by Kenya’s First Lady Rachael Ruto to improve the digital skills of women and girls.
Under a memorandum of understanding between Huawei and MaMa Doing Good, more than 14,000 women’s groups will benefit from digital skills training, Huawei said in a statement released in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Friday.
“This strategic partnership aims to provide MaMa Doing Good and the women it serves with devices to support learning and digital skills. The collaboration aims to provide women in Kenya with critical digital skills and bridge the digital divide,” said Huawei.
John Chumo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MaMa Doing Good, highlighted the aim of the partnership with Huawei to improve the digital skills of women and girls in Kenya. Investing in the digital skills of women and girls would accelerate progress toward gender equality, eradicating poverty and shared prosperity, Chumo emphasized.
Huawei Kenya deputy CEO Steven Zhang said the partnership with MaMa Doing Good aims to promote the social and economic advancement of women through the use of modern technology. “Through this collaboration, we aim to bridge the digital divide and create a better future for women in Kenya at a time when technology is increasingly ubiquitous and plays a significant role in most sectors of the economy,” said Zhang.
