The recent leak of company documents related to Microsoft’s court battle with the Federal Trade Commission has received wide attention in the gaming community. The disclosure of a range of internal information gave the public a unique insight into the corporation’s activities and plans.
The website drew attention to another interesting topic today Insider Gaming. One of the leaked documents from a few years ago contained a table presenting estimated revenues from Bethesda’s released and upcoming titles. Predictions regarding the recently released Starfield and games from The Elder Scrolls series are particularly interesting.
Profitable RPG titles
According to the data contained in a classified document, the expected earnings from Bethesda’s space RPG game over the four years after its premiere were to be less than a billion dollars. Naturally, a significant part of the sum (600 million) falls on the first year after the premiere (described in the table as fiscal year 2021, i.e. the originally planned date of Starfield’s debut).

The author of the text also made loose calculations, which show that over 10 million Starfield players may actually confirm the publisher’s bold predictions regarding investment income.
And although the amount of almost a billion dollars is admirable, it does not compare to the forecasts related to the premiere of The Elder Scrolls VI, which many people expected. According to the publisher, the continuation of Skyrim would earn around a billion dollars on its own in the first year of its presence on the market. (Of course, there is no chance for this game to be released in fiscal year 2024).
Assumptions about the strength of the TES brand can also be confirmed by the forecast for the MMO The Elder Scrolls Online, which, despite many years in the making, is still expected to generate approximately $200 million in revenue each year.
The information provided is, of course, only corporate estimates, which may not necessarily prove accurate – especially since the document was created several years ago.
