Gatwick, Britain’s second busiest airport, is limiting the number of flights for the rest of the week, as a result of a corona outbreak that has led to a staff shortage, reports The Telegraph.
It is said to be mainly staff in Gatwick’s air traffic control service who are affected by the outbreak, and as much as a third of them are said to be infected.
They will thus set a ceiling of 800 aircraft wings per day, until Sunday.
That means as many as 164 flights will be cancelled. The airport says that they will distribute the cancellations between the different airlines that have flights from Gatwick.
“London Gatwick would like to sincerely apologize to all passengers who have been affected by these restrictions,” said London Gatwick chief executive Stewart Wingate.
It is expected that the airport will announce which flights will be affected by the cancellations on Tuesday, according to The Guardian.
