Saint-Gobain Expands Acquisition Strategy in North America with Building Products of Canada Purchase on September 1st

Saint-Gobain is continuing its acquisition strategy in North America. After purchasing Kaycan, a cladding specialist, the group announces that it will finalize the acquisition of Building Products of Canada (BPC), specialized in roofing shingles and insulation panels, on September 1st.

On June 12, the French group Saint-Gobain announced the acquisition of Building Products of Canada (BPC), producer of roofing shingles and wood fiber insulation panels, for an amount of 1.325 billion Canadian dollars (nearly 900 million euros).

The company is notably “ leader in the production of asphalt roofing shingles », underlines Saint-Gobain. To date, BPC employs 460 people spread across three factories, in Montreal, Edmonton, and Pont-Rouge.

Having obtained authorization from the Competition Bureau in Canada, Saint-Gobain announces that it will officially finalize this acquisition on September 1.

A new acquisition in North America

At the end of May 2022, the group had already announced the acquisition of Kaycan, a cladding specialist employing 1,300 people on 12 production sites in the United States and Canada, to 928 million US dollars (around 860 million euros).

« After the contribution of the facade clapboard segment (« siding ») with the acquisition of Kaycan in 2022, Building Products of Canada completes Saint-Gobain’s Exterior Solutions offering in the country, thus strengthening the existing activities of CertainTeed Canada, already a leader in Interior Solutions (gypsum, insulation, ceilings) », Explained Saint-Gobain.

These two acquisitions are part of the group’s strategy, which invests in sustainable construction, particularly in North America.

As a reminder, in 2022, the Saint-Gobain group achieved a year of “financial records”, with a turnover of 51.2 billion euros, and a net profit of 3 billion euros. The group, present in 75 countries, employs 168,000 people.
