Indore: India win the second match of the ODI series against Australia. India won by 99 runs according to the Luckworth-Lewis rule due to the strength of the batters. With this, India took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Australia’s target of 317 runs against India was reduced to 317 runs in 33 overs after a rain interruption. But Australia’s struggle ended with 217 runs in 28.2 overs.
Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each. Chasing India’s mammoth score of 399, Australia reached 56/2 when rain interrupted. Rain interrupted India’s innings at 79 for the loss of one wicket in the first 9.5 overs.
Although they lost two wickets in the beginning, Warner and Labuschagne brought the Aussies up to 80 runs. But after they separated, they fell into a slump again. Ashwin crushed the Aussies by returning the left-hander Warner and Josh Inglis in one over. Green tried to fight back but was run out and Abbott fought back with a 36-ball 54 to ease the Aussies’ loss. Abbott, who came in at number eight, put on a 77-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Josh Hazlewood, who scored 23 runs.
Earlier, Shubman Gill with his fifth ODI century of the year and Shreyas Iyer with his third century led India to a big score. Iyer scored 105 runs and Gill scored 104 runs. Along with them, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries as India posted a record score of 399 for the loss of five wickets.
Although Ruturaj Gaekwad (8) lost his wicket early on, Gill (104 off 97 balls) and Iyer (105 off 90 balls) put on a 164-ball 200-run partnership. Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out in 37 balls) and captain KL Rahul (52 in 38 balls) who attacked in the last overs butchered the Aussie bowlers.
