Newcastle United’s Record-Breaking 8-0 Victory Over Sheffield United

Sheffield

Newcastle United brought a new record after returning from headquarters Sheffield United. Unmitigated, The Magpies won 8-0!

Newcastle visited Bramall Lane, Sunday (24/9/2023) evening WIB, with the mission of continuing their revival in the last two matches, winning 1-0 over Brentford and 0-0 against AC Milan. Previously, Newcastle lost three times in a row in the league.

Newcastle, who fielded Callum Wilson on the front line, played fiercely in the first half, leading 3-0 at halftime, through goals from Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn and Sven Botman.

It was only in the second half that Newcastle went berserk by adding five more goals. Each was divided equally between Wilson in the 56th minute, Anthony Gordon in the 16th minute, Miguel Almiron in the 68th minute, Bruno Guimaraes in the 73rd minute, and closed by Alexander Isak in the 87th minute.

Newcastle also matched their biggest win in the Premier League when they slaughtered another Sheffied team, Sheffield Wednesday, with a score of 8-0 in September 1999. The difference was that at that time Alan Shearer scored five goals.

Newcastle’s record for the biggest win in the league is still held with a score of 13-0 over Newport Couny in October 1946. Newcastle also set a new record after scoring eight different goals, not including own goals, in one match.

“We shared the goals equally today. It was also important for Alexander Isak to score and Sean Longstaff, who I think is a productive midfielder. So this is very important for each individual player,” said Newcastle manager Eddie Howe in BBC Sport.

Newcastle inflicted the biggest defeat in Sheffield’s history in the league in 4,988 matches. With this big win, Newcastle have scored 16 goals in six matches, only less than the record of 22 goals when the team was managed by Kevin Keegan in 1994/1995.

The additional three points means Newcastle is now in eighth position with nine points, still five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth position.
