Shakhtar captain Taras Stepanenko shared his thoughts on Ukrainian refereeing after the Ukrainian championship match with Rukh (1:1).

– We have all of Ukraine… The team loses – the referee is immediately to blame. But there is VAR, we looked. I don’t know, from our side there was no red. From the judge’s side – it was. He makes a decision.
I think that we need to avoid such mistakes. This is already the 4th or 5th red. Heavy loads. After Germany, many people returned with a cold or a virus; half the team felt unwell.
— You also ran up to the referee, weren’t you afraid of worsening the Reds’ statistics?
– No, I wasn’t afraid. I didn’t say anything bad, I was just emotional. That foul he whistled was simply terrible. This is what it is. I don’t want to say anything about the judges. They themselves demonstrate this level. That’s why almost nothing is judged in Europe. This is their level.
And we want our country and football players to play in Europe. And when Ukraine joins the EU, we want football to develop. And in order to develop, you need to do this at all levels. Not just football players. Both the panel of judges and the coaches. If we think about making me feel good today, then tomorrow it won’t be better.
