Chaos caused by false smoke alarm on Hamburg S-Bahn lines S1, S3, and S31

The false alarm from a smoke detector caused great chaos: the Hamburg S-Bahn lines S1, S3 and S31 did not run through the inner city tunnel between the main station and Altona.

As a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn announced, a smoke alarm was triggered on Saturday around 2 p.m. After a short time, the alarm turned out to be faulty, but they were still looking for the exact location and the reason for the alarm.

While the cause was being investigated, the affected S-Bahn lines between the main station and Altona were rerouted via Dammtor station. The stops between Königstrasse and Jungfernstieg were eliminated. It was advised to switch to buses.

At around 3:30 p.m. the S-Bahn gave the all-clear via “X” (formerly “Twitter”): The fire brigade operation had ended and the S1 and S3 were running again between Altona and the main train station over the Landungsbrücken and Jungfernstieg. Switching to buses is no longer necessary. (dpa/mp)
