Double dose for the American president. Joe Biden, 80, received a dose of the updated Covid-19 vaccine, as well as the annual flu vaccine, his doctor announced on Saturday.
“As we enter cold and flu season, the President encourages all Americans to follow his lead,” wrote the President’s personal physician, Kevin O’Connor.
Joe Biden had also received “several weeks ago” a new vaccine against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the main cause of bronchiolitis and which can particularly prove dangerous in the elderly and babies.
An increasing number of hospitalizations
U.S. health officials now recommend that all Americans 60 and older receive an RSV vaccine. They also authorized last week an updated version of the Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, better adapted to the variants of the virus currently in circulation.
The number of hospitalizations linked to Covid-19 has been increasing in the United States in recent weeks, according to numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionbut the success of this new vaccination campaign is uncertain: the previous booster dose against Covid-19 was only taken by 17% of the American population.
