Delta Air Lines Expands Flight Routes to Europe, Including New York JFK to Munich

The US airline Delta Air Lines will fly from New York JFK to Munich from April 9, 2024.

The US airline Delta Air Lines is responding to the recovery in air traffic by expanding towards Europe. Next year, the airline will not only fly from Atlanta to Zurich and from New York JFK to Naples and the Irish Shannon, but also to Munich. The airline announced the new flight routes on social media, among other things.

Delta Air Lines – a loyal customer at Munich Airport

The US airline Delta Air Lines will fly from New York JFK to Munich from April 9, 2024. From now on, the route will be served three times a week by a Boeing 767-400, which can carry up to 238 passengers. On board the Boeing 767-400, travelers can test, among other things, the Delta One Suites, the airline’s business class product.

Delta, which already flies to Germany’s second largest airport from Atlanta and Detroit, will play a huge role at Munich Airport in the future. Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH, is pleased about the new flight connection:

We are very pleased that our loyal customer Delta Air Lines now wants to start the third connection from Munich across the Atlantic to New York City after Atlanta and Detroit.

In mid-summer next year, Delta plans to offer 46 flights per week to Germany. In addition to the flights to Munich, Delta Air Lines also flies to Frankfurt from Atlanta, Detroit and New York JFK, the very airports from which the airline will also fly to Munich. The US airline also flies from Stuttgart to Atlanta four times a week. The airline also flies seasonally daily from New York JFK to Berlin-Brandenburg.

While Munich Airport gains a new connection, Düsseldorf Airport loses its only US connection to date. Delta Air Lines is currently flying three times a week from Atlanta to Düsseldorf, after the airline only resumed the connection in May 2023 after a break due to the pandemic. Now the connection is about to be deleted, like the portal, among other things AeroRoutes reported.

Conclusion on the new flight connection from Delta Air Lines

Starting next year, Delta will fly from New York JFK to Munich and is therefore in direct competition with Lufthansa, which flies from Munich to New York JFK with the Airbus A380. In the future, Delta will fly to Munich from three hubs. This once again underlines the great importance of Munich Airport – also from an international perspective. It remains to be seen whether Delta can make this flight route profitable in direct competition with Lufthansa. Would you rather fly from Munich to New York with Delta or Lufthansa?
