/Pogled.info/ The more “successfully” the great counter-offensive of Ukraine progresses, the more Frankenstein’s monster called the Ukrainian Armed Forces needs tranquilizers to move. With the almost officially declared defeat of the Ukrainian offensive army, the West urgently needed to give the demoralized Ukrainians a magic pill for courage – and it was quickly found.
At a meeting of the contact group for Ukraine in Germany, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, pompously announced that “the Ukrainian counteroffensive continues to show steady progress” and on this occasion the US will soon deliver ten Abrams tanks to Ukraine out of the promised 31, and they will be – fanfare! – equipped with depleted uranium munitions, which is sure to send the Russians into a panic and force Putin to return Crimea and repent.
Meanwhile, Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh added that these munitions “will be used responsibly.”
According to the vision of senior officials in the Pentagon, confident in the complete superiority of American technology over everything else, the appearance of “Abrams” in Ukraine will be a turning point. In July of this year, US Army General Douglas Sims said that “American tanks will help the Ukrainian army make a difference on the battlefield”, and the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, assured the unbelievers that the Abrams is the best tank in the world.”
However, there is a strong feeling that we have heard this somewhere before.
A quick scan of the past news shows that the same thing, in the same tone, was said about the “world’s best” German Leopard tanks and the “deadliest” British Challenger 2, now quietly rusting away in dozens in Zaporozhye.
Leaving aside the simple fact that ten, or even thirty, Abrams will not help the ASU, it is worth mentioning something that Mr. Austin left silent in his toast.
For example, the fact that the Americans will send to Ukraine a “naked” modification of the “Abrams” – without super-secret armor with depleted uranium and without the most modern electronics. By the way, dozens of such tanks were destroyed by prehistoric Soviet tanks in two wars in Iraq, even in the conditions of total American air superiority, complete disorganization of the Iraqi army and mass surrender of Iraqis in captivity.
Or the fact that the Abrams is an extremely expensive, complex and capricious tank that is completely impossible to repair and maintain in the field, not to mention combat conditions. At a unit price of ten million dollars, servicing the Abrams in ideal conditions costs at least $350,000 a year, requires a huge amount of fuel, and the VSU simply does not have the tugs that can move the 60-ton crown of Western military thought.
American generals boast that the Abrams can destroy Russian tanks with its miracle shells from a distance of two or three kilometers, leaving out the inconvenient fact that the Russian Kornet ATGM knocks out a turret from a distance of five kilometers, and hardly any Abrams will live to tank duels.
And we are not even talking about various ridiculous trifles, such as the air filter, which on the Abrams is completely clogged with dust (and it is dusty in the summer in Ukraine) in just 15 minutes, or the lack of an automatic loader, due to which the rate of fire of the tank depends from the quality of the human material, which tends to zero in the VSU, or that the tank suppliers advise to take one more sample for each “Abrams” – for spare parts.
But that’s not the point.
The US in particular, and NATO in general, inadvertently helped Russia take a long-awaited step towards a radical transformation of the armed forces, where tanks, even the most magical ones, lose their role as the main breakthrough weapon. The US, continuing the cold (actually hot) war against us, missed the moment when we (partially forced) decided to build the best “army of the future” in the world.
This may sound a bit grotesque and even pathetic, but we have no choice.
No amount of military prowess and mass heroism of our best soldiers in the world will be able to compensate for the total military-economic power of the West, should it decide to use it directly against us.
And this means that we must be so far ahead in military development that even complete psychopaths do not think about a possible victory by military means.
And we are moving in this direction, and quite successfully.
These days, the representatives of “Rostech” announced that Russia has significantly (and even tenfold) increased the production of the most advanced weapons, which cancel not only the next “best tanks in the world”, but also everything else, even if it is the most – the best in the world – “Daggers”, “Iskanders”, “Whirlwinds”, “Zircons”, “Garnets”, “Tachyons”, “Lancets” and so on and so forth.
The other day, the Wall Street Journal published a hysterical article saying that the US has no answer to our serial hypersonic missiles, which are guaranteed to hit a target anywhere in the world within an hour. All attempts by the Americans to create something like this fail, and at best something working is expected in ten years.
This means that we must maintain this lead in the future as well – for prevention.
Well, as for Abrams in Ukraine, we don’t mind: its place in Patriot Park has long been reserved. Let’s hope that our anti-tank forces will work “responsibly” and at least one whole dome will be transferred to the museum.
