MFF has twelve players on loan to various clubs in Sweden and the rest of Europe. Center back Noah Eile can be found, for example, in Mjällby AIF, who gave Malmö FF a double when they won both games this summer and where Eile was prominent.
Today, MFF can face two more of their “own”, in the form of winger Peter Gwargis and striker Hugo Bolin. Gwargis was loaned to Degerfors IF for the pre-season after returning from a cruciate ligament injury.
In Bolin’s case, the 20-year-old managed to play seven games during his Allsvenskan debut season with MFF before he was loaned to Värmlandsklubben at the end of August. Bolin’s first Allsvenskan match from the start came against Degerfors in June, but after that he only got one start and three short appearances in MFF.
Head coach Henrik Rydström believes that the competition contributed to Bolin’s meager playing time towards the end
– Above all, Hugo is a priority player with us. One might think: “Why didn’t he get more opportunities or chances?”. That can always be discussed, and at the risk of sounding like Janne Andersson: At the expense of who?, asks Henrik Rydström.
According to him, it would be wrong to enter clauses in loan agreements and prevent players from meeting the club from which it is loaned. Gwargis is listed for 19 Allsvenskan matches, the majority of which are substitutes, and is waiting for his first point. Bolin has played all the minutes when the second team lost against Djurgården and AIK and won against Häcken.
– I think that if you loan out a player, he must be there fully. Tomorrow, Hugo and Gwargis are our competitors, that’s how it is. I don’t think it should be that “he doesn’t play against them, or something,” says Rydström.
How much of a threat is Bolin in this lineup against you?
– It is a player who is already good, but he will be very good. We have to have a plan to deal with him, but then he’s not alone. I would say that Degerfors above all is a completely different team at home versus away, and Campos (Diego) is a player with skill. There are individual, offensive qualities – not least in the counter-attack.
Rydström continues:
– We know that Hugo has qualities that can… He was very good when we met Degerfors here at home and involved in many things offensively. We have respect for Degerfors and of course for Hugo. Then if it is an advantage or disadvantage that he knows us and those he meets – on the other hand, our backs know him quite well too.
MFF leads the Allsvenskan by one point ahead of Elfsborg ahead of today’s away match, while Degerfors has two points up to safe ground.
