NASA’s Mars Helicopter Set to Make Historic 60th Flight on Red Planet

Los Angeles (ANTARA) – NASA’s Mars helicopter will make its 60th flight on the Red Planet in the near future, the United States (US) space agency said on Friday (22/9).

The 60th flight is planned to be carried out after September 25. The helicopter is expected to reach a height of about 10 meters and cover a distance of about 326 meters in approximately 124 seconds, according to NASA.

The helicopter, named “Ingenuity”, arrived at Mars’ Jezero Crater on February 18 2021, attached to the hull of NASA’s Perseverance rover. This helicopter is a technology demonstration to test powered flight on another planet for the first time.

The helicopter is designed to fly for up to 90 seconds, covering a distance of nearly 300 meters in one flight at a height of about 3 to 4.5 meters from the ground, according to NASA.
