The iPhone 16 will probably arrive in September next year
The main novelties will include a larger display for both Pro and Pro Max models
The price should remain the same, possibly even on the Czech market
Although Apple has barely presented the iPhone 15, there is already lively speculation in the backroom about the next generation, which according to the manufacturer’s nomenclature should be called the iPhone 16. In this summary article, we will look at all the gossip and speculation about the next iPhones, and we plan to update the article continuously .
How many iPhone 16s will arrive?
According to the information so far, Apple is planning to bring a quartet of phones again. Four models for next year should be named iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro a iPhone 16 Pro Max. Rumors surrounding the model with the Ultra moniker are not confirmed and are rather believed to be a hoax. So we can expect a relatively traditional line-up of iPhones without any surprises.
Design – titanium and new buttons
For the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, Apple used a titanium chassis and it can be counted on to continue with the next generation of “pros”. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max should come again in a light titanium design. It is still too early to speculate about the color variants, but Apple will definitely come up with some element that will differentiate the 2023 and 2024 generations.
The basic iPhone 16 and 16 Plus duo will likely continue the trend of aluminum chassis with glass backs. The manufacturer will probably again reach for matte milk glass with Ceramic Shield protection. However, the layout of the cameras could easily change. Speculation is that Apple will return it to a vertical position to differentiate the new generation from the iPhone 15, 14 and indeed the 13 models.
Don’t overlook
The iPhone 16 will return to the original camera layout. Why?
Some speculations touch on alleged patents regarding haptic surfaces instead of classic buttons. This innovation should mainly concern the Pro/Pro Max models. Tipsters believe that Apple will take the same step in this case as when it removed the classic home button on the iPhone 7 and replaced it with a haptic pad. Well, if Apple managed to remove the iconic hardware switch from the 15 Pro and Pro Max models, it can also remove the remaining mechanical elements.
Display – the diagonal will grow
The entire iPhone 15 generation is unique in its way in that, compared to the previous generation of iPhones, it brought virtually no display innovation (if we don’t count the smart Dynamic Island cut-out on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus). That should change with the iPhone 16. iPhone 16 Pro (Max) is expected with even higher luminosity (the current generation has 2000 nits).
Speculations from May this year even talk about the introduction of the Face ID facial reader under the display, thanks to which Apple could reduce the Dynamic Island cutout. Or remove it completely. But such an innovation must seem a bit too ambitious even to die-hard fans to be completed in just one year.
The new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will get a 6.3″ and 6.9″ display, respectively
It is also likely that the basic models of the iPhone 16 (Plus) will finally bring ProMotion technology, i.e. an increased refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. This element of equipment will be under a lot of scrutiny, because Apple is inexplicably lagging behind the competition in deploying an increased refresh rate for all new iPhones.
However, the most important element is the increase in the diagonal. The iPhone 16 Pro should offer a display with a 6.27″ diagonal, the iPhone 15 Pro Max even 6.86 inches. This was pointed out by a well-known tipster and analyst Ross Young. For comparison, the basic iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1″ screen and the 15 Pro Max has a 6.7″ screen. So it should be a noticeable increase. The aspect ratio also stretches to 19.6:9.
Equipment – power, battery and Wi-Fi 7
In terms of equipment, another massive increase in performance can be expected. A18 Pro chips will probably be used in the best iPhones, the A17 chip will go to the basic pair, but not in the Pro version, but in the Bionic version, as customers of the basic iPhone series are used to.
Don’t overlook
iPhone 15 will get an improved UWB chip, provide advanced integration with Vision Pro glasses
Of course, there will be USB-C, which was already introduced in current iPhones, a slightly larger battery, and there is also speculation about the use of Wi-Fi 7 as a new wireless Internet connection standard. We have to wait for more specific information about the equipment of the next iPhones.
Camera – would a periscope?
Topic number one in recent years. This year’s generation shows that the basic models have taken over some functions from the previous Pro models. A certain pattern can be seen in this. Current speculation, however, does not suggest that the photo equipment of the basic iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models should be fundamentally improved next year.
In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models promise a folded lens with up to 5x optical zoom. There is even speculation that a true super periscope telephoto lens with a focal length longer than 300 millimeters will finally arrive. However, this was also speculated about in this year’s generation, and in the end it didn’t quite turn out that way. Customers have been asking for a significant improvement to the selfie camera for a long time, but this is most likely not in the plan.
Price and availability
It is still too early to speculate on prices. It can be expected that Apple will again bet on the same price in dollars. At the same time, this does not mean that the price in the Czech Republic will remain the same as this year (see previous years). So the US price could look like this:
iPhone 16 – $799 iPhone 16 Plus – $899 iPhone 16 Pro – $999 iPhone 16 Pro Max – $1,199
Again, we can count on a pre-autumn release date, i.e. roughly mid-September 2024. The start of sales should traditionally follow a week after the show. However, the premiere date of the new iPhones can be delayed, for example, by a problem with production lines and thus delayed deliveries to priority markets.
None of the information given is official, it is speculation with varying degrees of reliability. We try to continuously update the article with new information…
