In a strange incident, a Russian man named Kamolgon Kalonov escaped from prison on the same day he was scheduled to be released, after spending 22 years there for committing serious crimes.
The charges against Kalonov included murder, robbery, and possession of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices.
He was supposed to be released from a prison in the village of Markova near the city of Irkutsk last week.
The regional administration of the Federal Prison Service informed the Novosti news agency that Kalonov disappeared on the morning of the day he was scheduled to be released, at around 4 a.m.
Kalonov was first convicted of planning a “criminal organization” and was released from prison in 1997. He was convicted again in 2001 and imprisoned for 22 years.
