INS identifies new lineage in Peru, three cases in Metropolitan Lima and one in Cusco | Andean
The National Institute of Health (INS) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced that it identified a new lineage of Covid-19 in Peru. This is FL.1.5.1, or also known as Fornax, of which three cases were recognized in Metropolitan Lima and one in Cusco.
According to the entity, this new lineage is not on the World Health Organization (WHO) list of variants, but it is the second most visible in the United States. This would be more transmittable, but not lethal.
Fornax is a relative of the Eris subvariant (EG.5.1) that has already been found in some neighboring countries such as Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia and the USA. These cases are the first that have been known in the national territory.
On the other hand, the INS indicated that the BA.2.86 lineage is already being monitored by the WHO due to the mutations it presents. This could evade the protection of “previous” coronavirus vaccines and infections. Precisely, this variant is already present in 13 countries, but still in Peruvian territory.
This is how the team of specialists continue to constantly monitor to corroborate the presence of new lineages.

For his part, the general director of Strategic Interventions in Public Health, Cristian Díaz, did not rule out that in the coming days there will be more cases in the regions. This is how he indicated that it is important for citizens, and even more so for older adults, to be fully vaccinated.
Given this situation, he pointed out that from the fourth month onwards the first booster dose could be received with the bivalent vaccine. While people who never started their vaccination schedule would do so with the bivalent one.
“An adult who does not have any comorbidities only receives one dose of bivalent, while adults with comorbidities and older adults do receive two doses of bivalent,” the specialist explained to RPP Noticias.
The doctor maintained that the effects of the vaccines are mild, such as fever, headache, among others, but they could not be compared with the symptoms that contracting the virus can cause.
It’s official now. The bivalent vaccine is the only dose to be applied in the national immunization process. / Infobae
From another point, they also reported that they identified 17 cases so far of the Eris variant, also known as EG.5. A greater number of cases exist in Metropolitan Lima (15%) and in other cities such as Huánuco (1) and Apurímac (1).
This lineage already has a presence in more than 50 countries and it is not ruled out that it will continue to expand in various parts of the world. This would be highly transmittable to the population. The symptoms are similar to the other variants.
