An annual celebration in Manhattan aims to showcase the diversity of the city’s Hispanic community.
The Port Authority’s Hispanic Heritage Month series began with Cuban jazz.
The agency will bring different performances to the Oculus Plaza over the coming weeks.
These include merengue and Afro-Latin pop among many other musical styles.
There will also be fine art exhibits, demonstrations and a tango class.
Organizers hope to showcase the diversity of the community.
Steven Brown, Manager of Special Events Coordination at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey]says:
“Even though we are all very, very proud Hispanics and Latinos, we are very different from each other. A Dominican band will have a different type of talent than you would see in a Puerto Rican band.”
Artists can expect a large audience.
The World Trade Center has seen nearly 200,000 people pass by every day.
