The Secretary of Strategic Studies and Analysis of the National Executive Committee of the National Action Party (PAN), Fernando Rodríguez Doval, urged the federal government to put an end to what he considers a risky bet with the health of Mexicans, by criticizing the president’s administration López Obrador for his alleged attempt to use low-quality vaccines in the fight against COVID-19.

Rodríguez Doval, who also served as former secretary general of the PAN, expressed concern about the resurgence of COVID-19 cases around the world, marked by new variants of the virus that differ significantly from the original strain. However, he accused President López Obrador and the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, of not understanding the importance of not putting the health of Mexicans at risk.

According to him, they intend to administer low-quality vaccines, such as the Russian Sputnik, the Cuban Abdalá and the controversial Mexican vaccine called Patria, which lack the endorsement of the World Health Organization and, according to experts, are not effective against the new variants. of the virus.

The PAN official highlighted the high cost of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19 for Mexican families, with an average treatment cost of 496 thousand pesos for men and 290 thousand pesos for women, according to data from the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions. For those who can receive treatment at home, the estimated cost is 24,369 pesos per person.

In his statement, Rodríguez Doval went even further by calling for the dismissal of Hugo López-Gatell from his position and demanding that the criminal proceedings against him be reopened. He stated that the decisions made by López-Gatell have consistently underestimated the seriousness of the disease and that his place should be jail, not a comfortable office in the Ministry of Health.

The PAN leader argued that Mexico still has time to avoid a new wave of COVID-19 deaths, as long as authorities shift their focus toward acquiring higher quality vaccines, such as those from Pfizer (NYSE:) and Moderna ( BMV:), and leave aside the vaccines that he described as “garbage.” Furthermore, he questioned the supposed availability of other vaccines on the market for those who can buy them, considering this statement as an insult to those with fewer resources.

In conclusion, Rodríguez Doval called on the authorities to correct their mistakes and stop putting people’s health and lives at risk by acquiring substandard vaccines.
