Judge to Decide on Possible Summary Trial in Civil Fraud Case Against Donald Trump

NEW YORK – The judge presiding over the civil fraud case against former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), his company and several of his children and partners in New York said this Friday that he will make a decision on a possible summary trial next Tuesday .

The magistrate, Arthur Engoron, spoke thus at the beginning of a hearing to address a motion from the New York State Prosecutor’s Office, which argues that it has “indisputable” evidence to consider Trump responsible for the crimes without the need for a trial.

Trump’s defense has requested that the Prosecutor’s motion be dismissed and, in parallel, has denounced the judge for alleged abuse of authority in the contents of the case, which is being reviewed by an appeals panel.

The civil trial, which would be the first in a long list that Trump faces, is scheduled for October 2, but was temporarily paused while that appeals panel evaluates that complaint against Engoron.

The New York Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Letitia James, took this legal action at the end of 2022 accusing Trump, his company (the Trump Organization), his eldest sons Donald Jr. and Eric and several associates of inflating their assets – by up to $2,200 million dollars in a single year – to obtain tax and loan advantages.

The prosecutor, who filed the lawsuit last year, demands that the defendants pay a fine of $250 million in financial benefits and also that their ability to do business in New York be restricted, which would be a significant hit to their income. .

At today’s hearing, in the Supreme Court of New York, the lawyers of both parties appeared, without the presence of Trump or prosecutor James, to present their respective arguments throughout the morning, which may shape the contents of the potential trial.

Meanwhile, a fourth investigation could also end in criminal charges. To see more from Telemundo, visit
